LAVOIRS, FONTAINES ET BÉAL

Water is the wealth of the Montagne Noire. In the 17th century, Riquet decided to canalise some of its watercourses to make them the source of the Canal du Midi. Water is everywhere in Saissac. Wash-houses and fountains, these places of life are numerous in the alleys of the village. The most remarkable are the fountain on Place aux Herbes (1772), the covered wash-house (1889/1890) and the ‘13 meuniers’ water channel.

Take a stroll through the streets of Saissac and discover the 11 key points of this small heritage.
