LA RIGOLE DE LA MONTAGNE

The Rigole de la Montagne is the feeder system for the Canal du Midi and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Designed in the 17th century by the engineer Pierre Paul Riquet, it carries water from its capture at the Prise d’Alzeau to the Saint Ferréol reservoir, a distance of almost 25 km. The water then continues its journey through the Rigole de la Plaine before flowing into the canal at the Seuil de Naurouze.

The Rigole is the ideal place for a walk on level ground. You can enjoy it on foot, by bike or on horseback! Pushchairs can also get around easily on the path, and the coolness of the undergrowth will be much appreciated in midsummer. There are several possible starting points: at the Prise d’Alzeau in Lacombe, at the Lampy Neuf dam in Saissac, at Le Conquet, or from the Vauban vault at Les Cammazes.
